Terms of use

Last updated: 25 July 2026

The short version: Imbue is an educational and self-help app, not medical care, and it never replaces your doctor. A subscription renews by itself until you cancel, and you cancel it in your app store, not with us. The Wall of Support is a kind place: be kind on it. If something here does not work for you, write to us - we would rather fix it than argue about it.

1. Who we are, and what you are agreeing to

Imbue is made in New Zealand. These terms are the agreement between you and us for your use of the Imbue app and this website. By installing or using Imbue you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use Imbue.

You must be at least 16 years old to use Imbue. It is intended for adults managing their own health and well-being.

2. What Imbue is - and what it is not

Imbue is educational and self-help. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it is not a medical device. Nothing in Imbue, and nothing Genevieve says, is a clinical opinion about you. We do not know your history, your test results, or your circumstances.

Imbue teaches a mind-body, nervous-system approach to living with chronic illness. There is real research behind that approach, and we point you to it in Studies & Research. But research about a group of people is not a promise about any one person. Recovery is not guaranteed, timelines vary enormously, and some people improve a great deal while others improve a little.

Always keep your own doctor in the loop. Do not stop, start, or change any medication or treatment because of something you read in Imbue. Seek proper medical attention for new, severe, or rapidly changing symptoms - Imbue is not equipped to tell the difference between a symptom that is safe to sit with and one that needs a doctor today, and neither is a mind-body approach in general. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line straight away.

You are responsible for how you use what you learn here, including how much activity you take on. Please go gently.

3. Your subscription

Most of Imbue needs a subscription. Here is exactly how that works.

4. Custom audio sessions

Some subscriptions include an allowance of custom audio sessions, made for you by an AI voice. The allowance is stated in Imbue. Unused minutes carry over; they do not expire while your subscription is active. Minutes are not money, cannot be exchanged for money, and are not transferable. If a purchase is refunded, the minutes it granted are removed.

Sessions are generated automatically. We keep a copy on our server so you can restore them on a new phone, and you can delete them at any time.

5. Genevieve, the AI assistant

Genevieve is an AI. She is clearly labelled as one throughout Imbue, and she is not a person, a therapist, or a clinician. She can be wrong. She is deliberately limited to the recovery approach for your chosen pathway and will decline anything else.

Please do not send Genevieve anything you would not want processed by an AI service - see the privacy policy for exactly what happens to a message. There is a generous daily limit on how much you can ask, which exists only to keep the service affordable to run.

6. Community guidelines - the Wall of Support

The Wall of Support is a place for people with the same condition to send each other encouragement. It is deliberately built so that almost nothing can go wrong: you cannot type a message there. Every post and every reply is assembled from wording we wrote and shipped inside Imbue. The only thing you can type anywhere on the wall is a first name.

By using the wall you agree to:

Reporting and blocking. You can report anything that seems wrong, and you can hide another person so you never see them on the wall again. Reporting someone does not take their post down: the only thing we ever remove is a first name. We review reports and act on them, usually within a day. We may remove a name, hide a post, or block an installation from writing to the wall, at our discretion and without notice, where these guidelines are broken.

What you post. Because the wording is ours and the only free text is a first name, you are not handing us any creative work. You give us permission to show what you post to other people using Imbue, which is the whole point of the wall. Posts and replies are deleted automatically after six months, and you can remove everything you have posted at any time using "Erase all your data" in Settings.

The wall is not moderated in real time, and other people's posts are their own. Please treat what you read there as encouragement from a stranger, not as guidance about your condition.

7. Your data

Almost everything you do in Imbue stays on your own phone. There is no account to create to use Imbue; an email address, verified once, links your custom audio and wall identity to you. What leaves your device, and why, is set out in full in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

Backups are your responsibility to keep safe. A backup file contains everything in your app, including your conversations with Genevieve, so keep it somewhere private.

8. Our content, and what you may do with it

The writing, audio, illustrations, printable sheets and code in Imbue are ours. While your subscription is active, you may use them for your own personal, non-commercial recovery, and you may print and share the printable sheets with your own family, friends and clinicians - they are made for exactly that.

Please do not republish, resell, or build a competing product from our material, and please do not extract the content in bulk or use it to train a model.

Where we mention another author, method, or book, we do so to credit them and to point you to their work. We are not affiliated with them and they have not endorsed Imbue.

9. Keeping the service running

We will do our best to keep Imbue working, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of faults. Parts of it depend on other services - an app store, a hosting provider, an AI provider - and those can fail.

We may change, add, or remove features over time. If we ever have to discontinue Imbue entirely, we will give as much notice as we reasonably can inside Imbue, and we will not take payment for a period we cannot deliver.

10. Limits on our responsibility

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under consumer law that cannot legally be limited, including the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act and the Fair Trading Act, or the equivalent protections where you live.

Beyond those rights: Imbue is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before it arose.

This does not limit our liability for anything that cannot be excluded by law.

11. Ending things

You can stop using Imbue at any time: cancel your subscription in your app store, erase your data in Settings, and uninstall Imbue.

We may suspend or end your access if these terms are seriously or repeatedly broken - in practice, that means abuse of the Wall of Support or attempts to attack the service. If we do that to a paid subscription without good reason, we will refund the unused part.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and significant changes will be made clear inside Imbue. Continuing to use Imbue after a change means you accept the updated terms.

13. Law, and getting in touch

These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction - though if you live elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of your own country's law.

If something here does not sit right with you, please write to us before anything else. You can use the contact form inside Imbue, or the email address below. It is shown as an image to keep it away from spam bots; type it into your email app to contact us.
